Finding Dory Reviews Summary: Pixar brought its arsenal, but yet not necessary the best of in its canon.
As early reviews came swirling in on 10th June, I am eager to see the extent and praise and what the rotten review has to say, while keeping the hopes of an over 90% RT rating alive. But the webpage is not what I expected.
Instead of overwhelmingly positive reviews that was hinted by the early screenings and the Pixar crew's hype, most of the reviews admit that the sequel doesn't boast the heart and emotion highlighted in the predecessor. Besides, in many ways it is lacking, and the story is a repeat of the previous film while characters Marlin and Nemo were said to be in the film just to argue with each other. It might not be the modern Pixar classic as we would think.
BUT, THATS CERTAINLY NOT THE WHOLE PICTURE. While nearly everyone admits the flaws, even more admit the good aspects in Finding Dory. As said in:
"In terms of structure and story -- the movie not entirely able to escape the repeat-y trap in which oh-so-many sequels find themselves falling. But efforts to soften those elements with plenty of "new" are mostly successful, and do elevate the feature beyond its immediate association." -Eric Eisenberg from cinemablend.com
This is exactly what all the reviews are saying. Hank, Destiny, the sea lions etc. All the new lads are great. There was also a sense of the vintage Pixar running in the veins of this movie, the result of intense quality control and high expectations the crew has to live up to. Pixar is doing its best, and despite it often struggles in making sequels outside the Toy Story franchise, Finding Dory is another of its family films that will embrace its canon with big financial and decent critical success.
$115 is Finding Dory's predicted opening number, but that's if Finding Dory is one top-tier Pixar film. Toy story 3 stands at $110, so since he world is told Finding Dory might fall a little bit short of that, there is a risk factor saying it is going to score Pixar's all time biggest opening and will gross past a billion worldwide.
This summer has suffered a lackluster start already, with all the sequels crumbling down and bombing. All of us are setting our eyes on Finding Dory so fingers crossed its will be well-received.
